I looked up that recipe and am hoping that when in New Orleans later this year I'll find someone who will make me one properly. If not I'll have to hit you up for your restaurant recommendation. So how was it? Here in the Bay Area I'd probably end up with elderberry, ginger and Sichuan peppercorn in the thing.seraillonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17654593356535433945noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2609668304633418767.post-25491693275990445652017-03-30T12:42:30.627-07:002017-03-30T12:42:30.627-07:00I have never forgotten Lionel Barrymore drinking a...I have never forgotten Lionel Barrymore drinking all of those Louisiana flips - is that in the novel? Only two weeks ago did I finally find a restaurant that would make me a flip.Amateur Reader (Tom)https://www.blogger.com/profile/13675275555757408496noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2609668304633418767.post-67301154991262804812017-03-30T11:29:01.074-07:002017-03-30T11:29:01.074-07:00We're so accustomed today to seeing works in w...We're so accustomed today to seeing works in which characters are thrown together in "random" interactions that it's hard to believe Baum's novel started the hotel genre. seraillonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17654593356535433945noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2609668304633418767.post-51467924756864755342017-03-29T00:56:17.824-07:002017-03-29T00:56:17.824-07:00It's so interesting to see your perspective on...It's so interesting to see your perspective on this novel, Scott. Your comments on the historical context and position of Germany at the time are particularly insightful - I think you're right about the significance of those little details. One of the things I liked most about the novel was the various 'random' interactions between the characters, many of which are engineered by Baum to drive the action forward. They illustrate so much about the different aspects of human behavior, both good and bad. JacquiWinehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16220597283351925721noreply@blogger.com
